  A Continuum of Services  

Innovative thinking—based on solid research and a desire to maximize the potential of everyone we serve—is at the heart of Elwyn’s philosophy. We partner with families, communities, and government to create programs that meet the unique needs of the individuals we serve.  And we pride ourselves on being able to offer integrated services to our clients and their families.

Adult Day Services provides day care for adults with developmental disabilities. Located on the Media, PA, campus, and in Wilmington, DE, adult day care includes hands-on assistance with self-care and personal hygiene; activities designed to emphasize communication, social skills, and emotional health; development of gross and fine motor skills; improved leisure skills; and independence.

Behavioral Health Services offers a wide range of programs for adults and children, including community and campus-based residential programs as well s a wide range of community-based programs designed to serve children in the community and in their homes.  Elwyn’s Behavioral Health Services fully embraces evidence-based clinical practices and values for enhancing functioning, independence and recovery in persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.  Elwyn remains committed to serving people in new and innovative ways, maximizing their potential for participating in, and contributing to their communities.

Behavioral Health Services also includes programs for children and adolescents, ages 2 to 21, with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.  Programs include wrap-around services; school-based programs, including after-school care; case management; and programs for families and children with autism.

Deaf Services supports deaf, deaf-blind, and hard-of-hearing individuals.  Deaf Services include Valley View, an assisted living residence that serves the deaf and deaf-blind community; a community-based home for developmentally disabled adults who are deaf or hard of hearing; a state-of-the-art audiology department; and a network of community-based services and opportunities.

Early Childhood Services provides early learning programs for children and their families. The Development Center, which is based on our Media campus, is an accredited preschool and child care center.

Special Education for Early Developmental Success (SEEDS) supports children in Philadelphia and Chester, PA. SEEDS coordinates multi-disciplinary evaluations and contracts with multiple agencies for ongoing preschool special education services. Services include special instruction, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and nursing. Depending upon their special needs, the children are served in their homes, at Head Start centers, in community day care or nursery school, or in center-based early intervention program.

Education Services improves the quality of life for children who are medically fragile or children with a variety of challenges, including: mental retardation; autism spectrum disorder; social, emotional, and behavioral disorders; and hearing, visual, and neurological impairments.  Education Services include schools for public and private elementary, middle, and high school students; a Training and Technical Services program that helps schools, agencies, and families develop new support programs for students with special needs; and a Family Friends program that encourages special education students and senior citizens to work together on projects and recreational activities.

Research and Health Services offers a full range of assessment, therapeutic, and health services to the individuals we serve, those served by other agencies and the general public.  Many services are offered on our campus near Media, Pa., while others are offered at community sites in Philadelphia, Delaware and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania.  Our services include:

  • Ancillary and Outpatient Therapeutic Services: audiology and hearing aid dispensing, nutrtition, occupational and physical therapy and therapeutic recreation.
  • Genetic Services: diagnostic genetics evaluations, consultative services, staff training, Fragile X Center.
  • Dental Clinics:  two fully handicapped-accessible, state-of-the-art clinics located on our Media Campus and in the heart of the West Philadelphia/University City area.
  • Grace Pharmacy: a full-service pharmacy for individuals in Elwyn's residential programs and contract customers.
  • Nursing Services: medical case management, medication administration, routine and emergency care, and nursing care planning and assessment for individuals in Elwyn residential programs.
  • Nutrition:  nutritional assessments, development of specialized programs, nutritional counseling and education, meal monitors and development of seasonal menus for individuals in Elwyn residential programs and by contract to other provider agencies.
  • Research: the latest information in the practical implications of genetic disorders in people with disabilties, as well as the study of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilites. 

Supports for Living offers residential services in southern New Jersey, and in Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania.  Residential options include campus living, community-based group homes and apartments, supported living arrangements, in-home support, life sharing, and respite care.  Residential Services also offers a number of specialized residences for individuals who are medically fragile, have Prader-Willi Syndrome, require closer supervision, or have limited communication skills.  Ancillary services include medical, dental, nursing, audiology, speech-language, and nutrition services; physical rehabilitation programs; recreation services; and case management.

Work Services programs provide opportunities for people with disabilities to achieve their highest level of vocational functioning and to be productive citizens in their communities. Operating in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California, these programs include adult training facilities, work centers, placement and employment support services, Elwyn Industries, and Assistive Technology Services.  Elwyn Assistive Technology Services helps people who require assistive technology to be independent and successful in their home, school, agency, or work site.

Work Services arranges employment in custodial and building support services, manufacturing, and assembly and packaging services. Our employees are also responsible for the management and operation of the Main Campus Mailroom and the Print Shop.
