Joan Emmi Elected to Elwyn Board of Directors

December 27, 2011

Elwyn is pleased to announce the election of Joan Emmi as a Member of the Board of Directors.

"I am pleased to welcome Joan Emmi to the Elwyn Board,” said Dr. Joseph Pappano, Chairman of Elwyn’s Board of Directors. “She brings a wide variety of experience, as well as a passion for assisting the most vulnerable among us. I look forward to working with her.”

Mrs. Emmi joins Elwyn’s Board of Directors with extensive non-profit experience, having most recently served as both a Board Member and President of the Board of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. As a Board Member of the Ronald McDonald House from 1999 to 2007, Mrs. Emmi chaired the Finance Committee, served as Board Secretary, co-chaired the 25th Anniversary Celebration and chaired the 30th and 35th Anniversary Celebrations. Under her leadership as Board President from 2003 to 2007, the Ronald McDonald House built a second location near St. Christopher’s Hospital in North Philadelphia.

“Advocacy for children has long been a passion,” Mrs. Emmi said. “Giving voice to those who are, for many reasons, without a voice of their own, is fundamental in the development of the whole child. In addition, I believe firmly in the concept of active community involvement where people give back, with whatever resources they have available to them. I look forward to bringing my experiences to Elwyn and joining the Board of Directors.”

Mrs. Emmi also served as a Board Member for The Old Eagle School and served on several committees of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. While with the Archdiocese, she served as the 180th Anniversary Gala Chair and 175th Anniversary Gala Co-Chair for St. Charles Seminary. She served on the Development Committee to the Board of St. Charles Seminary and the Stewardship Advisory Board to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Mrs. Emmi has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Oswego. She was the Director at the Our Lady of Assumption Pre-School and Kindergarten from 1993 to 1998.

Her other volunteer experience includes Meals on Wheels, Girl Scout leader, Class Mother at Agnes Irwin School, The Academy Ball Committee and the Women’s Committee to the Board of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Elwyn President Dr. Sandy Cornelius said, “Joan Emmi will be an outstanding addition to the Elwyn Board. Hers is an example not simply of caring for individuals in need, but doing. Her many experiences in leading nonprofit entities will be of great assistance to the entire Elwyn community.”
