A Prescription from the Past
October is American Pharmacists Month, making it a fitting time to look back at how medications were once prepared at Elwyn.
Long before modern pharmacies made medications readily available, Elwyn physicians often compounded medicines themselves to care for students and residents. Treating everyday ailments such as colds, coughs, and rashes required carefully measuring and combining ingredients to create remedies designed to provide relief.
This month’s Archive Item of the Month offers a glimpse into this earlier era of healthcare at Elwyn—and the care, precision, and resourcefulness that have been part of supporting the people we serve for generations.
