Firefighter Helmut
Before the establishment of organized fire companies as we know them today, fire prevention and response were largely community-based responsibilities. This helmet is believed to have been used by staff serving in a fire marshal or fire warden capacity. Archival photographs of schoolrooms show shelves above doorways labeled “FIRE,” where buckets were stored for quick access. These visual records suggest a coordinated, on-site approach to fire response, with staff prepared to act quickly to contain and manage fires before they spread.
