Elwyn Awarded $500,000 State Grant to Expand Specialized Inpatient Services for Children

수요일, 5 8월 2026

Elwyn has been awarded $500,000 through Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) to support the expansion of specialized behavioral health services for children and adolescents on its Media campus in Delaware County.

Announced by Governor Josh Shapiro as part of nearly $445 million in statewide investments supporting 356 projects, the funding will help advance Elwyn's Specialized Inpatient Unit (SIU), which will expand the organization's Children's Residential Treatment Facility by adding a 16-bed unit for children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and complex behavioral health needs.

The grant will fund renovations to the Sun Center and Beatty Hall buildings, including new entrance canopies, roofing, windows, and doors. Improvements will also include ADA-accessible bathrooms, observation rooms, and renovated double-occupancy rooms to better support high-quality, specialized care.

"We are grateful to Governor Shapiro, Senator John Kane, Representative Lisa Borowski, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for recognizing the growing need for specialized behavioral health services for children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities," said Chuck McLister, President and CEO of Elwyn. "This investment strengthens our ability to provide compassionate, evidence-based care for children and families while supporting the long-term transformation of our Media campus."

The Specialized Inpatient Unit is a key component of Elwyn's ongoing campus modernization efforts and its commitment to expanding access to specialized behavioral health services.

Senator John Kane emphasized the importance of the investment, stating:

"These investments are about making sure our communities have access to the healthcare services they need today while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow. Expanding emergency and outpatient care at Riddle Hospital and modernizing Elwyn's specialized inpatient facilities will strengthen our local healthcare system, improve patient outcomes, and better serve families throughout our region."

This marks Elwyn's third RACP-supported project in recent years. Previous awards helped fund the Hines Children's Residential Treatment and Learning Center and the Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Center. Together, these projects are advancing Elwyn's long-term vision to modernize its historic Media campus while preparing to celebrate the organization's 175th anniversary in 2027.

Through strategic investments like these, Elwyn continues to expand access to innovative care and educational services, helping children, families, and communities thrive.
