October 30, 2016 – Philadelphia, PA – Every year, the Dick Vermeil Humanitarian Award is given out by Elwyn, the oldest residential treatment facility for intellectually disabled people in America. The 2016 winner was just announced, and the award ceremony was presided over by Coach Dick Vermeil himself.
The 2016 award went to The Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a long-time supporter of Elwyn programs. Along with honoring the organization as a whole, sixteen individual PIC employees were named on the award for their above-and-beyond volunteer efforts on behalf of intellectually challenged children and adults at Elwyn.
The award-winners all demonstrated the principles which Coach Dick Vermeil supported in his career, and Elwyn encourages in all its activities:
- Setting good examples
- Promoting leadership
- Energizing work and learning
- Creating enjoyable work\learning atmospheres
- Showing true sincerity
The Philadelphia Insurance Companies and its honored employees displayed all these traits and more, providing invaluable assistance in Elwyn’s continual mission to improve the lives of disabled children and adults. The Philadelphia Insurance Companies volunteers have improved lives at Elwyn’s residential treatment facilities and schools throughout Pennsylvania.
Elwyn is proud of the work they do, and their long history of working with mentally challenged individuals. Elwyn relies on donations of time and money to continue to do their work, and through the Dick Vermeil Humanitarian Award, Elwyn is able to honor those who share their vision.
