Elwyn Receives Grant from The McLean Contributionship

Friday, 7 August 2026

We are so grateful to The McLean Contributionship for a generous grant that will help our youngest learners get to school safely.

Each year, Elwyn's Early Learning Services provides early intervention and special education to more than 10,000 children across 52 school districts in Philadelphia and Chester Upland. Many of these children have intellectual and developmental disabilities - including physical impairments, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges - that make everyday transportation far more complicated than simply getting from one place to another.

For some children a standard car seat may not provide the support needed for safe transportation. Without specialized adaptive equipment, families and transportation providers can face a difficult situation: delaying access to essential services or transporting a child without the level of support necessary to ensure their safety.

Thanks to The McLean Contributionship, Elwyn will be able to purchase specialized adaptive equipment designed to keep them safely and comfortably supported during every ride to and from their early learning program.

This equipment ensures the children we support receive consistent access to therapies and individualized instruction that support a child's development at a critical stage. It also helps close an equity gap, ensuring that children from low-income families have access to adaptive equipment that would otherwise be out of reach.

Thanks to this generous support, more of Elwyn's youngest learners will be able to get to school safely, participate fully in their programs, and build the foundation they need for long-term success.
