Mission Statement

Welcome House’s mission is to be a vibrant mental health peer support services community that improves the lives of people living with serious mental illness by means of:

  • A working community mental health model that relies on voluntary membership
  • Developing innovative programming designed to offer recovery from mental illness
  • Community education and integration to improve recovery perceptions and practices
  • Advocacy and support for living and thriving in society

Our Vision

Welcome House’s vision is that people living with mental illness would experience hope, acceptance, and respect and an opportunity to define the person they aspire to be.

Our History

Welcome House opened its doors on July 1, 1994 after converting from a traditional vocational rehabilitation program and partial hospital program. Today, Welcome House is Clubhouse International Certified and licensed by Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. The program provides psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery services to approximately 65 persons recovering from the effects of mental illness daily.

Overview

Working together in a peer support service community of hope, respect, and acceptance is the heart of this model in order to build and reclaim confidence and dignity. By working together the clubhouse members develop peer supports and friendships, acquire new skills, and advance towards accomplishing their employment and educational goals.

Members an opportunity to participate in several areas within Welcome House including culinary, education, horticulture, reception, membership, customer service, and wellness. Each area serves as an opportunity for skills and supports building.

Admission Criteria

  • Is 18 years or older; and
  • Has a written recommendation for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services by a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts acting within the scope of professional practice; and
  • Has an open case with a Delaware County Mental Health Base Service Unit (BSU); and
  • Has one of the following ICD 9 diagnosis:
    Schizophrenia,
    Schizoaffective Disorder,
    Major Mood Disorder,
    Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Has Delaware County Behavioral Health Assessment documenting that the individual has a moderate to severe functional impairment due to their mental illness that interferes with or limits performance in a least one of the following domains:
    Living,
    Learning,
    Working or
    Socialization

Directions

Welcome House Clubhouse peer support services is located ½ mile west of 69th Street Terminal in Delaware County at 7700 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. We are easily accessible by car and public transportation routes 104, 112, 120 and 126 that stop in front of the building. The clubhouse has its own parking.
