People with special needs often have difficulty securing basic dental care. Developmental disabilities, including physical disabilities and behavioral problems, often serve as barriers to acceptance at local community clinics. Additionally, a typical dentist is not equipped to offer services to patients who are fearful or difficult to manage.
Elwyn’s Dental Clinics provide comprehensive, quality dental care to individuals with and without special needs. Caring, experienced staff works closely with persons with disabilities (age three and older), people with mental health problems and the frail elderly to ensure that they are comfortable and well cared for while receiving dental services. If necessary, patients over 14 can be sedated with IV sedation administered by a Board-certified Anesthesiologist in Elwyn’s clinic on the Media campus. Located on Elwyn’s Media Campus in Delaware County and at Elwyn Philadelphia at 4040 Market Street, Elwyn’s Dental Clinics offer a full range of dental services covered by insurance:
- Preventive care
- Comprehensive exams
- X-rays and panographs
- Behavior management
- Periodontal therapy (such as quadrant scaling and root planing)
- Restorative fillings
- Endodontic treatment (root canals)
- Extractions (performed only when necessary)
- Removable prosthondontics (partials and dentures)
Dental services are rendered by caring, experienced Board Certified Dentists, Hygienists, and Dental Assistants. The Media Dental Clinic provides anesthesiology services by Board Certified Anesthesiologists, assisted by Registered Nurses certified in Adult Life Support. All Dental Clinic staff have many years of experience working with individuals with special needs.
