For over a century and a half, Elwyn has provided professional care and education for children facing a wide range of emotional and developmental challenges. Some of our most important work is based in our behavior services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We provide many services, all aimed at improving these children’s social development, life skills, and overall ability to function in society as they grow up.
Exploring Elwyn’s Behavior Services for Children With ASD
We put much care into our ASD services, with offerings for children at every level of development and functioning. Our behavioral health services for children with ASD include:
We partner with trained specialists to assist in diagnosis of possible ASD cases. We will also work with families to help them understand the diagnosis, their own child’s individual level of disability, and what they can expect moving forward.
One of the most common traits of children with ASD is that they have difficulty appropriately socializing or empathizing with others. Our therapeutic socialization program operates five days a week and is available for those up to 21 years of age. The program places them in controlled environments where they can work on their socialization skills.
We provide a full range of personalized educational and developmental services to children with ASD, each tailored to their own strengths and needs. Our goal is to offer the least-restrictive environments that encourage them to develop greater levels of independence, while still learning vital life skills.
The Elwyn Farm, at our Davidson School, helps our students succeed in a genuine real-world environment. The farm is entirely organic and provides opportunities for students with a wide range of abilities and disabilities to stretch themselves. Our students with ASD are frequently put into roles such as sales staff to strengthen their communications skills!
