South Bay Clubhouse
Elwyn California’s South Bay Clubhouse is a day training program designed for people with traumatic brain injury who are progressing from medical rehabilitation into the community and eventually to the workplace. The program is also open to people with developmental disabilities who can benefit from the services offered by the clubhouse program.
The South Bay Clubhouse is modeled after a highly successful program, the Fountain House, based out of New York City that empowers people with chronic mental illness to become independent through a self-esteem model of rehabilitation. The Clubhouse applies a combination of independent living and the Fountain House philosophy to persons with traumatic brain injuries or cognitive disabilities so they may rejoin society as functional and contributing members. Participants are not “patients” or “clients” but rather, they are “members” of a community of people fully involved in operating the South Bay Clubhouse. Members oversee all operations of the South Bay Clubhouse, working side-by-side with staff to regain critical life/work skills. All work performed in the work units is voluntary and benefits all members of the Clubhouse. These include; Clerical Unit, Maintenance Unit, and Kitchen Unit. Through the day, Clubhouse participants learn work and life skills while preparing for community integration. (License#: 198600557)
